GREENSBORO, N.C.-Lady Aggie guards Tu’Wuana Cook and Amber Bland combined for 44 points to lead five players in double digits en route to a 91-69 victory over Hampton University (9-9, 5-4 MEAC).
The Lady Aggies, which have now won two straight, jumped out to an early 19-9 lead and never looked back. Cook led the run with 18 opening half points as the Aggie led 56-34 at halftime. The Lady Pirates shot a dismal 34 percent (21-39) in the first half compared to North Carolina A&T’s 54 percent (22-41).
Among the N.C. A&T starters Ahmad Williams contributed 14 points and Shantar Waddell added 10 points and four rebounds.
Hampton was led by junior Rachel Butler (Dallas, Texas/Lincoln HS) with 16 points and seven rebounds. Junior Artavia Burns (Dallas, Texas/Lincoln HS) and freshman Whitney Hill (Hampton, Va. /Phoebus HS) chipped in with 10 points respectively.
The Lady Pirates were strong on the glass once again as they outrebounded the Aggies 57-41 led by Chinyere Ukoh’s (Woodbridge, Va. /Woodbridge HS) game-high 13 boards.
The loss snapped the blue and white five game road winning streak.
The Lady Pirates will look to rebound on Saturday, February 3 when they host Bethune-Cookman at 4 p.m. in the HU Convocation Center.
